Product Development: Billy Reid’s Denim Program, Relaunched

As head of product for Billy Reid’s domestic manufacturers, I worked alongside our designers and tech designers to relaunch Billy Reid’s Denim Program. This included a slim fit and a standard fit 5 Pocket Denim Pant, two Denim Jacket styles, and one Denim Shirt style. I helped develop a lefthand twill, custom striped selvedge from Japan. We reimagined our existing metal and leather trims (tack buttons, rivets, belt labels, shuttle-loom main labels, pre-cut and pre-printed pocket bags) and consolidated all sourcing efforts to one vendor. After multiple trips to Los Angeles, I vetted a new vertical denim manufacturer who would handle pattern making, fit corrections, shrinkage, marking, grading, QC and distribution. I was able to increase our margins by 6% from previous years. We launched the program after a 12-month development period, but it was well worth finding a single fabric vendor, trim vendor, and vertical manufacturer to minimize fallout.

With the launch of our new program, I created a “Product Knowledge” in Adobe InDesign (utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for specific assets) for our retail and wholesale teams to reference and held a presentation and training session during our bi-annual symposium at HQ.
